Pedestrian Accidents

Did you know that walking can be dangerous to your health?

According to the NHTSA’s Traffic Safety Facts Report there were 4,280 lives lost in pedestrian/motor vehicle crashes in 2010. This totals nearly 12 people every day of the year. If those numbers aren’t troubling enough, if you break down the numbers even further, you will see that an estimated 70,000 were injured in traffic crashes during that same year. Every 8 minutes (on average) pedestrians are involved in traffic accidents. A pedestrian, as defined for the purpose of this Traffic Safety Fact Sheet, is any person on foot, walking, running, jogging, hiking, sitting or lying down who is involved in a motor vehicle traffic crash.

Due to the relative frailty of the human body, when a pedestrian is involved in a collision with a motor vehicle, the results to the pedestrian are typically significant, sometimes catastrophic. You may find yourself facing medical bills, lost work and pain and suffering.

If you or someone you know been injured in a pedestrian accident in North Texas, we recommend you seek the services of an experienced and aggressive attorney.

Alcohol Involvement in Pedestrian Accidents

Alcohol involvement — either for the driver or for the pedestrian — was reported in 47 percent of the traffic crashes that resulted in pedestrian fatalities. Of the pedestrians involved, 33 percent had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 grams or higher. Of the drivers involved in these fatal crashes, only 14 percent had a BAC of .08 or higher, less than two-fifths the rate for the pedestrians. In 6 percent of the crashes, both the driver and the pedestrian had a BAC of .08 or higher.
