Born in the rugged-beautiful countryside of South Africa, Albert Myburgh is a zealous and dedicated attorney whose legal representation of his clients is as impassioned and unyielding as is the formidable landscape in which he was raised. These and other noteworthy qualities have enabled Mr. Myburgh to practice successfully on different continents for over 30 years.

Mr. Myburgh became a partner in one of South Africa’s preeminent matrimonial law firms. At this firm, his legal expertise was broadened to include complex commercial litigation and sophisticated and high-end financial transactions.

He worked in Hong Kong as General Counsel for a U.S. listed company with the responsibility for all its international activities that included numerous M&A deals and cross-border transactions. Mr. Myburgh was also General Counsel for a Hong Kong based venture capital firm where he gained significant experience in working with startups.

After emigrating to the U.S., Mr. Myburgh completed an LLM at Boston University with a concentration in securities law. Since then, he has continued his work as a corporate attorney and has worked extensively with startups in matters ranging from entity selection, incorporation, initial seed financing through venture capital financing. Mr. Myburgh has continued his association with the Kanen Law Firm in Manhattan, where he was previously a partner and head of this firm’s corporate division, as of counsel.

  • Mr. Myburgh has more than 10 years experience in New York matrimonial law, including trial work as the first chair involving both custody disputes and complex financial issues. He is a National Institute of Trial Advocates (NITA) designated trial advocate.
  • In addition, Mr. Myburgh has experience in U.S. immigration law and is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
  • Mr. Myburgh  is admitted to practice in State Courts of New York, United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern

Districts of New York and United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He is also admitted to The High Court of South Africa, both as an attorney and conveyancer.
